Arcata, in Humboldt County, California, will vote on Measure I next week, which would impose a 45% tax on households that use three times the amount of power a typical family home does. It takes aim at commercial growers who maximize production by packing homes full of high-intensity lights & irrigation systems that gobble electricity.
Who decides how much power a "typical" family home uses. Are these typically poor peoples' homes? A rich person's home typically uses a lot more power than any other home.
Maybe this will come back to bite the ones who came up with this nonsense.
I wonder if growing with LEDs vs. HIDs could bring the power consumption down enough so as not to raise a red flag? I know you still need power thirsty fans, but I thought a huge % of power goes to the lighting needs? /2012/07/hid-high-intensity…
Fans really take very little power, and you are totally correct. This is a great marketing scheme by the anti-weed forces in Arcata, who probably secretly own LED grow light factories! :-)
