Is Albania Europe’s New Marijuana Capital?

Lazarat is a small mountain village in Albania, and one that police no longer visit. 90% of the village’s 7,000 people grow an estimated 500 tons of marijuana during the growing season. Last summer, an effort to destroy the crops led to a firefight worthy of Hollywood: 15 SUVs with mounted machine guns opened fire on officers.
