First Recreational Marijuana Licenses in Whatcom County, Washington
Cannabusiness

The state has issued the first recreational marijuana licenses in Whatcom County to two growers-processors. The state created three tiers for growers based on square footage. Tier 1 was originally for operations smaller than 2,000 square feet; tier 2 was 2,000 to 10,000 square feet; and tier 3 was 10,000 to 30,000 square feet.

Not sure why this is newsworthy in the Weedist… there were 29 other growers licensed in Washington before these two, with many thousands of plants that should be in flower by now. The earlier licensed growers were located from the Idaho border to the Oregon border to the far west Olympic Peninsula on the ocean. Perhaps because Whatcom county borders on Canada its worthy of special mention even though they are coming late to the party?

Bottom line, recreational retail stores should open in early July and a few growers will have their flowers ready, although not the ones in Whatcom county. Higherr volumes of weed will harvest in late July and August, except of course for the outdoor crops that won’t mature until October.

Yes… Washington state growers have legal outdoor recreational pot in the ground for THIS SEASON. I’ve been smoking indoor grown weed for so long now that it will be interesting to get some sun-grown weed. Eastern WA (where the outdoor growers are) gets LOTS of sun, unlike Seattle. If they can grow the world’s best apples and cherries out there, I’m sure they can do wonders with cannabis.
