For home storage, I’m a fan of glass mason jars. When I’m looking for something portable, cheap, non-fragile, light-weight, malleable, and discreet (aka odorless), there’s really only one pro move:
Pro Method: Oven (aka Turkey) Bags. Turkey bags have quite a few uses, including cooking or freezing turkeys. Urban Dictionary accurately defines turkey bags for our use case, “A bag used to store weed.” Turkey bags are the hands down winner at keeping all those wonderfully pungent terpenoids sealed within the bag and not wafting out towards that transit cop on the subway next to you. Pro tip: Don’t tie the turkey bag in a knot too tightly, and you can re-use a turkey bag over and over. If you’re carrying a smaller amount of cannabis, you can throw it in a smaller ziploc, but then throw the ziploc bag inside the turkey bag.
Acceptable Method: Ziploc Freezer Bags. These freezer bags do a much better job than standard ziplocs at keeping odors locked inside. However, more pungent strains will absolutely bleed through these ziploc freezer bags. If you don’t have a turkey bag, you could find yourself double or triple bagging, and sometimes still have some stank leaking out. Pro tip: Freezer bags are great for soaking glass pieces in rubbing alcohol overnight for when they need a deep cleaning, as regular ziplocs can have the rubbing alcohol bleed through after a few hours.
Mediocre Method: Ziploc Bags. The standard (non-freezer) ziploc bags are nearly worthless as you’ll walk about smelling like a mobile marijuana dispensary. Unless you’re storing the ziploc bag inside something significantly better at containing odors, avoid using them.
Vendors do sell containers, such as mason jars in materials other than glass, that are also great for transporting cannabis. For me, turkey bags are the cost-effective time-proven transport container of choice!
